Wilhelm Nolte

Born on September 1, 1940 in Zerbst/Anhalt
After early retirement in late 1993 from his profession as Lieutenant-Colonel and director of the Documentation Centre at the German Staff College in Hamburg, he founded an independent "lectoriat" for the production and promotion of peace-related issues and peace studies and publications - the "draft fachlektorat frieden, see website below.

His main scientific interests and publications as well focus on alternative defence and security, on non-nuclear strategies and on the incorporation of non-violent resistance (Autonomous Protection). In this field he is co-author with Dietrich Fischer and Jan Øberg of "Winning Peace. Strategies and Ethics for a Nuclear-Free World" from 1989. In addition, he has done researchnon and published works on the attitudes of military Staff interests.

At present, he is heavily involved in supporting the planning and establishment of the European Peace Museum, ASPR, in Schlaining, Austria, which be will be inaugurated in May 2000.

Wilhelm Nolte and the founders met in the early 1980s in Dubrovnik at the Inter-University Center. We worked together in Winning Peace (with Dietrich Fischer) in 1988 and he formally became adviser in 1999.
