Burundi 2003, 2006 & 2007

Burundi - the land that is shaped like a heart. It lies south of Rwanda, east of the Democratic Republic of Congo and Lake Tanganyika and west of Tanzania. If you want to learn more, go to TFFs link library for Burundi.

In November-December 2003, I had the opportunity to visit Bujumbura, Burundi's capital. Board chairman Christian Hårleman and I did fact-finding and identified Burundian civil society groups with the aim of establishing the TFF Amahoro Coalition. "Amahoro" means peace. Burundi, one of the five poorest countries in the world, presently goes through a peace process after 10 years of genocide and war.

New series have been added in 2006 and 2007.

Burundi is not on the front pages, and few people around the world have any impressions of the country. My photos are merely snapshots, but I sincerely hope they convey some of the optimism and beauty of Burundi and its people that I experienced.

See the different galleries under this picture and read more about Burundi and about TFF's work in Burundi here.
