Born 1938, Sundsvall, Sweden. Licenced Physician ("MD") 1964, Dissertation (Doctor of Medicine) 1973 (eq. to MD PhD in the USA) at Göteborg University. Intern, Resident and Specialist Physician at Sahlgren's University Hospital 1964 to the present with shorter periods of medical military medical service with the UN forces in Gaza, Palestine in 1963 and medical research at Alexandria, Egypt in 1964. 1967-71 and 1992-3 vising researcher and visiting professor at University of Minnesota. Professor of medicine, Department of Medicine, University of Göteborg Medical School. President of Swedish Society of Nephrology 1994-6, Scandinavian Society of Nephrology 1995-6. Medical Adviser in Nephrology (Kidney diseases) to the National Medical Board 1997-2004. Scientific activity: Approx. 100 publications in international peer reviews journals, mostly in the field of nephrology. During the seventies active in Amnesty International, 1975-6 as President of the Göteborg Chapter. Member of SLMK, Swedish Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War since its first year in 1982 and National President 1997-2004. SLMK is the Swedish Affiliate of IPPNW, International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War. SLMK has 4000 medical doctors as members, one physician out of eight in Sweden is a member. IPPNW has been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for its work to prevent nuclear war. Speaker of the Council of International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War and Ex Officio Member of its Board of Directors. Participated in 10 of the 12 International Congresses of IPPNW. Participated in, and to a varying degree organized, a large number of congresses, seminars, meetings and lobbying efforts regarding nuclear weapons, their medical effects and their abolition, in Moscow (more than a dozen in the last ten years), Leningrad and St Petersburg, Archangelsk, Washington, London, Brussels, Paris and at the UN Headquarters in New York and at the UN Offices at Geneva. Until recently, Gunnar Westberg was Co-President of the International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War, IPPNW. - now member of its Board. Written 5-8 articles annually in Swedish daily newspapers on nuclear weapons since 15 years and contributes several articels annually for the SLMK Bulletin. Married since 1966. Three children. After having served as TFF Associate since 2002, Gunnar Westberg joined the Board of the foundation in October 2008.
